Burhan bin Ahmad Ragheb Al-Dajani (1920-2000) is a Jordanian writer , thinker, author and researcher of Palestinian origin. He was born in Beit Dajan in Jaffa , western Palestine . He received his primary education in Beit Dajan and the Omariyya School in Jaffa. He completed his secondary education in English schools in Safad and then obtained a BA in Economics from the American University of Beirut in 1940 and a MA in 1944. He then worked at the Arab Office in Jerusalem and London from 1945-1948 and studied at the Institute of Law in Jerusalem and obtained a diploma from the Palestinian Institute of Law in 1948.
He founded the weekly Al-Hadaf magazine in Jerusalem in 1950 in the wake of the 1948 Nakba, and founded the Education Department of the UNRWA in the West Bank (1949-1950) and was appointed its director.
He was appointed professor and lecturer of economics at the American University of Beirut (1953-1974), and a visiting professor and lecturer at the Lebanese University and Beirut Arab University. He was elected Secretary-General of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Arab Countries (1955-2000). He contributed to the establishment of the Institute for Palestine Studies in Beirut (1962), and served as a founding member of its Board of Trustees. He also contributed to the establishment of the Arab Cultural Club in Beirut (1956), and was elected its president. He was a member of the Advisory Committee of the League of Arab States for Economic Affairs. He was one of the founders of the Arab Nationalist Movement and one of the first to call for the establishment of the Arab Common Market in 1941, which he saw as the realistic gateway to Arab unity.
In recognition of his efforts, the Lebanese government awarded him the Order of the Cedar in 2000.
