Issam Sakhnini (1938–2019) is a Palestinian thinker , historian , and researcher in the history of the Palestinian people who struggled and were displaced after 1948. Confronting the Zionist biblical narrative about the ancient and modern history of Palestine, he enriched the Palestinian and Arab library with his writings and research. He won the Philadelphia University Award in Amman for the best book written in the humanities for the year 2012 for his book The Holy Crime " Genocide from the Ideology of the Hebrew Bible to the Zionist Project", published by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies . His last book published by Dar Al-Aidoun was entitled Jerusalem: A Kidnapped History and Forged Antiquities.
His academic life
Dr. Issam Muhammad Sakhnini was born in the occupied city of Tiberias in 1938. He was displaced with his family following the Nakba in 1948, and the family settled in Jordan . He obtained Jordanian citizenship. He married Nimat Sakhnini and had four children. He obtained a BA in Philosophy from the University of Damascus , a PhD in Islamic History from Saint Joseph University in Beirut , and a second PhD in Islamic Philosophy entitled “The Abbasids in the Founding Years, a New Interpretation of Revolution, Legitimacy, and the System of Government” from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom in 1991.
His professional life
He worked for Jordanian Radio in Amman and then Voice of Palestine Radio in Cairo . After the establishment of the Palestine Liberation Organization , he was appointed director of the organization's office in Baghdad in the sixties. He was Deputy Director General of the Palestinian Research Center , and Editor-in-Chief of the Palestinian Diaries in Beirut between the years (1971-1978). He was the Central Editor-in-Chief of the United Arab Emirates News Agency in Abu Dhabi during the years (1967-1980), and Head of the Middle East Research Center and Head of the Arab Information Bank in Dubai during the period (1980-1996). He worked as a professor at Petra University in Jordan for the years (1997-2015).

His death
Issam Sakhnini died on November 20, 2019, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and was buried there. The Palestinian Ministry of Culture mourned him in a statement: “Sakhnini’s passing is a loss to national and nationalist culture. He was one of the most prominent Palestinian and Arab intellectuals and historians who confronted the Zionist narrative, the narrative of theft, looting and falsification of our land and our Arab Palestinian history. With his passing, Palestine and the Arab nation have lost one of their most prominent intellectuals who devoted his life to the cause of his people and his homeland.” The General Union of Palestinian Writers and Authors mourned him in a statement, saying: “The writer Issam Sakhnini, who dismounted from the saddle of life after a long journey of giving, steadfastness and creativity from continuous struggle, and the union confirmed that the passing of the great creator, Dr. Issam, is a loss to the Palestinian and Arab cultural scene.”
