Sharif Shukri Rashid Shasha'a (1890 - June 11, 1963) was a Palestinian Jordanian writer, poet, journalist and politician. He was born in Gaza to a Hashemite family, and studied there and in Nablus . He worked as an employee in the Tax Authority, then headed the Financial Accounting Bureau in Acre. He then moved to Jordan, and held several administrative and financial positions. He was appointed a member of the Executive Council, then Minister of Finance, then Minister of Interior and Defense. He has several publications, translations and a poetry collection. One of the oldest government secondary schools in Amman was named after him.
His biography
Shukri Rashid Ahmad Sha'sha'a was born in Gaza in 1890 AD / 1307 AH, to a father who was descended from the Ashrafs. His grandfather Sha'sha'a Al-Alami Al-Husseini was the head of the Ashrafs there. He was born after several brothers and sisters who died after birth, and his parents did not have any children, so he was his parents' only child. Shukri obtained his primary school certificate there, then continued his secondary education in Nablus, and mastered English and French in his youth.
He was displaced to East Jordan in 1919. He founded, with a group of national youth, a movement to resist British control, and was an activist in the “Ansar al-Haqq” Association in Acre and Salt in 1928.
He worked as the head of the letter clerks in the Jaffa Customs , the head of the Finance Department in Acre , a teacher of mathematics, history and ethics in Acre as well, the director of general accounting in 1921, the inspector of finance and the director of telegraphs and mail during the era of the Emirate of Transjordan, and the head of the Accounting Department.
He was then appointed Director of the Treasury (Minister of Finance) in 1931, Minister of the Interior and Minister of Defense in 1940, Minister of Finance and Minister of Economy in 1942, and Minister of the Interior, Minister of Finance and Minister of Economy in 1942. He headed the Financial Reforms Committee in the Shura Council, was a member of the Bureau of Interpretation of Laws, and a member of the two Senates; the Third in 1951, and the Fourth 1951-1955.
Shukri Shasha’a died on June 11, 1963/Muharram 19, 1383 in Amman at the age of seventy-three.
