Adnan Abd al-Latif Ahmad al-Zubaidi (Abu Yazan; October 25, 1951
- April 4, 2007) was a Palestinian plastic artist, born in the Palestinian city
of Tulkarm. He is considered one of the pioneers of the Palestinian plastic
movement, and one of the most prominent plastic artists. His paintings have
been shown around the world, and he holds a number of awards. Local and
international awards.
His upbringing and education
Artist Adnan Abdel-Latif Ahmed Al-Zubaidi was born in the city
of Tulkarm in the West Bank on October 25, 1951. He received his primary,
preparatory and secondary education in the schools of his city, Tulkarm, and
obtained a bachelor’s degree in Arabic literature from Beirut Arab University
in 1977.
His working life and work
He worked as an art lecturer in many universities and colleges,
including Bethlehem University, and community colleges in Ramallah.
He participated in all exhibitions of the Association of Fine
Artists in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jerusalem and the Palestinian interior.
He worked as a cartoonist and designer for Al Shiraa magazine
during 1980-1982.
Member of the Administrative Board of the Plastic Artists
Association from 1980 to 1997.
Participated in painting murals in Jerusalem and Ramallah during
the First Intifada.
Founder of Yabous Fine Arts Group.
He worked as a coordinator for many drawing and painting
competitions in the “Bethlehem 2000 Project”.
He worked as a coordinator for drawing competitions with the
Palestinian Red Crescent Society in 2001.
He worked as a children's drawing artist with the French Afaq
Foundation, and concluded it with an exhibition at the Peace Center in 2002.
Exhibition coordinator of the Center for Cultural Heritage
Preservation in 2004.
He designed and implemented several memorials, including the
Martyr's Monument in Dheisheh Camp, 18 meters high of stone.
A monument was erected in the city of Hebron by Palestinian
President Yasser Arafat.
He worked as a coordinator of the artistic expression campaign
in the “Bethlehem 2000” project.
his death
Adnan Al-Zubaidi died at dawn on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, due
to an incurable disease, and his funeral and burial took place on Thursday,
April 5, 2007.
The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, mourned
the artist Adnan Al-Zubaidi, and President Abbas offered his condolences,
saying: “We received with great pain and deep sorrow the passing of the
prominent plastic artist who was forgiven, with the Almighty’s permission,
Adnan Abdel-Latif Al-Zubaidi, one of the most prominent pioneers of the
Palestinian plastic movement, who passed away after a busy life. With giving,
he dedicated it to serving his country and people, and a busy path through
which he consolidated the Palestinian identity, and raised the name of
Palestine high through his works and valuable artistic paintings, in which he
clearly showed the concerns, suffering and legitimate struggle of our Palestinian
people, and expressed them through his art, and through which he was able to
communicate our just cause to The depth of world public opinion, so he was, may
God have mercy on him, the best ambassador for our people and our just cause in
all forums and fields, and with his departure, the Palestinian culture will
lose a prominent flag among its flags, and a great and distinguished plastic
artist.
His first posthumous exhibition
On June 5, 2022, an exhibition of Adnan Al-Zubaidi’s paintings
was held for the first time after his death 15 years ago, in the city of
Bethlehem, with a remarkable attendance.
