his views

In a 2016 article, Yezid Sayegh argued that the experience of Arab countries confirms that “technocratic approaches to security sector reform are incapable of achieving the purpose, because the focus on upgrading and upgrading rich skills and operational capabilities, in the absence of improving the governance of security agencies, can be easily undermined.” by anti-reform coalitions, which ultimately reinforces the persistence of reactionary patterns of behaviour.” Sayegh believes that although “formalizing police work and resolving disputes on the basis of clan, sect, or ethnic identity - as is the case with the revolutionary militias in Libya, the Shiite popular crowd militias, the Sunni tribal crowds in Iraq, or the sectarian party militias In Lebanon - it would be detrimental to the cohesion and unity of the state.” However, he believes that “the focus in the past on the centrally managed security sectors made them extremely important assets in political competitions, enabling them to evade oversight and benefit from de facto legal immunity.”
