Research Interest
· General description: The Main aims of my researches and practice are to
promote evidence based medication use and prescribing with the goal of
improving disease control and health related quality of life of patients with
chronic diseases. To achieve these aims, I am currently involved in several
clinical and pharmaceutical care researches in cardiovascular, nephrology, and
other internal medicine related disorders.
· Research interest: Clinical pharmacy, clinical trials of effectiveness and risk,
pharmacokinetics, evidence based medicine, quality of life and pharmaceutical
care research with special interest in respiratory, diabetes, and cardiovascular
diseases.
· Research Line includes:
1. Investigating and promoting rational drug use and evidence based medicine
- Investigating drug use in specific diseases including diabetes,
hypertension and coronary artery diseases
- Investigation physician adherence to treatment guidelines
- Investigating treatment related problems
- Investigating use and overuse of certain medications including
proton pump inhibitors, NSAIDs and H2 Blockers
- Randomised controlled trials and cross-sectional trials aiming at
comparing the efficacy of certain medications.
2. Investigating and promoting Pharmaceutical Care: establishing pharmaceutical
care is very important to help in promoting rational drug use and reducing
treatment related problems. Currently, I am conducting several researches to
help in establishing pharmaceutical care in Jordan; these include:
Pharmaceutical care programme for internal medicine patients, Pharmaceutical
care programme for paediatric patients, Pharmaceutical care programme for
patients with rheumatoid arthritis, willingness to pay for pharmaceutical care,
physicians and pharmacist attitude toward pharmaceutical care.
3. Instruments and questionnaire development: Most of the clinical and
pharmaceutical care researches require the use of validated questionnaires to
measure clinical variable or outcomes; unfortunately there are very few
published questionnaires in Arabic language which is a major obstacle for
clinical research. Therefore I am currently conducting several studies aiming
at developing, validating and translating questionnaires for clinical use. These
includes: adherence to medications questionnaire, SF-36 questionnaire, EQ-
5D, asthma control questionnaire, allergic rhinitis control questionnaire, self
care activities questionnaire and allergic rhinitis quality of life questionnaire.
4. Therapeutic drug monitoring and Adherence to medications: Investigating
adherence to medications is a very important part of pharmaceutical care.
Currently I am conducting several research related to adherence to
medications: adherence to medications in patients with chronic diseases and
blood spot analysis that will help in easy determination of drug to role out
poor adherence before increasing dose or adding another drug after therapeutic
failure or poor disease control.
5. Clinical trials: Generic Vs Brand antihistamines for allergic rhinitis
6. Pharmacokinetic studies
7. Disease state investigation: Currently I an involved in an in-depth
investigation of allergic rhinitis in Jordan including prevalence, control,
allergen sensitization and management. A similar study on Hypertension is
also being conducted
8. Other health related research
