Ibrahim Al-Astal ( Abu Amjad ; January 20, 1961 - October 23, 2023) is a researcher and professor in mathematics curricula and teaching methods, of Palestinian nationality . He worked as Dean of the College of Education of the Islamic University in Gaza , and Editor-in-Chief of the “Islamic University Journal for Educational and Psychological Studies.” He also published a number of research papers in Arabic and English in local and international journals.

His biography

Ibrahim Hamid Hussein Al-Astal was born in 1961. He obtained a doctorate in curricula and methods of teaching mathematics in 1996, after which he worked as a professor at Al Ain University and Ajman University in the United Arab Emirates , then at the Islamic University of Gaza. He rose through the ranks at the College of Education of the Islamic University of Gaza , where he was Head of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching Methods (September 2011 - August 2013), then Deputy Dean (September 2013 - August 2015), then Dean of the Southern Branch (August 2015 - August 2017)., and finally Dean of the College since September 1, 2019.

He worked as a coordinator for several programs and projects, including the project “Improving the Quality of Technology Education Teacher Preparation Programs in Universities and Colleges in the Gaza Strip,” which was funded by the International Development Foundation and the European Union , and was under the supervision of the Quality Improvement Fund in Gaza in 2010. He also funded the “Improving Teacher Education” program. From the World Bank and the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education (2011-2019). He was also a member of the steering committee for the project “Program for Developing Pre-Service Mathematics Teacher Education,” under the supervision of the Arab American University in Jenin and in partnership with the Institute of Education, University of London (2010 - 2012), and a member of the steering committee for the project “Developing teacher preparation for early childhood education and primary schools in Palestine.” and Norway”, under the supervision of the University of South-Eastern Norway since January 2019. He also works as a consultant for the Arab Foundation for Science, Publishing and Research. 

In 2005, he published a book entitled “The Teaching Profession and the Roles of Teachers in the School of the Future” in cooperation with Faryal Younis Al-Khalidi for the University Book House in the United Arab Emirates .

He, his wife, his daughters, and a number of his relatives were assassinated on October 23, 2023 during an air strike carried out by the Israeli Air Force on the Gaza Strip , during the Israeli response to Operation Al-Aqsa Flood .
