WASHINGTON: Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has announced the appointment of a Palestinian-American, Evona Abraham, as a judge for the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County, the state's largest county, becoming the first Palestinian woman to reach the position at the state level.

Attorney Evona is a judge and director of probation for the District Court in Dearborn Heights and a faculty member at the Michigan Institute for Training New Judges.

Evona Abraham hails from the town of Beit Hanina, north of occupied Jerusalem. She holds a doctorate in law from the University of Detroit-Mercio, and a BA in Business Administration from the University of Michigan Dearborn.
