Zakaria Al-Astal is a Palestinian doctor from the city of Khan Yunis. He holds a PhD in Microbiology from Ain Shams University in Egypt.

He has conducted two research studies on a type of bacteria that affects the respiratory system and contributes to meningitis and middle ear infections, helping to determine the necessary vaccinations. He has also conducted research on hepatitis.

Many of his studies have been published in local journals and predominantly in international journals. During his research career, he was invited by the Saudi Medical Journal to review scientific papers, and a publishing house in India requested him to conduct a study. One of his studies is set to be published in a global reference on antibiotic resistance in bacteria causing urinary tract infections.

He has been recognized as one of the most influential figures globally.
