Yahya Abdul Raouf Jaber was born in the village of Kafr Saba in the Qalqilya Governorate in 1944. He studied primary and secondary school in Qalqilya schools, and obtained his high school diploma from Al-Sa’diya Secondary School in Qalqilya in 1962. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Arabic language from Beirut Arab University in 1967, a master’s degree in Arabic language from Cairo University in 1975, and a doctorate in Arabic language from the same university in 1977.
He worked as an Arabic language teacher in Saudi schools between (1962-1971), an Arabic language teacher in Libyan schools, a lecturer at the University of Benghazi for five years, a lecturer at the University of Jordan in Jordan in 1983, an editor in the cultural supplement of the Jordanian newspaper Sawt al-Shaab in 1985, a linguistic expert for the “Children’s Television” workshop in the United States of America at the “CTW” network, a supervisor of the educational series “Al-Manahil” between (1985-1986), a lecturer at An-Najah University since 1986, a director of the Academic Affairs Department at Al-Quds Open University, and a deputy director of the Educational Development Directorate at Al-Quds Open University between (1989-1991), a lecturer at Hebron University between (2004-2005), and a part-time academic supervisor at Al-Quds Open University for several years.
He provided cultural and scientific consultations to various magazines, including: Qatari Education and Heritage, Al-Manhal, King Abdulaziz Foundation in Saudi Arabia, Libyan Arab Culture, Jordanian Ideas, and others, and supervised a number of master’s theses.
He participated in the establishment of the Palestinian Academy of Arabic Language, the Scientific Society in Palestine, and the World Assembly of Palestinian Academics, and participated in cultural and scientific conferences in Palestine and abroad.
Jabr wrote the literary article, and has a number of published studies and research. He has published twenty-five books, including: Dictionary of Natural Geography Terms (1987), Towards New Linguistic Studies and Dimensions (1988), Dictionary of Jordanian and Palestinian Countries (1991), Palestinian Geographical Figures between Obliteration and Distortion (1995), The Palestinian Academy of the Arabic Language (1995), The Clear in Morphology (joint, 1995), Adel Zuaiter (1996), A Tour in the Courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque (1996), and Shawqi Palestine (1999). He has edited four books: The Tens in the Strange Language by Abu Omar Al-Zahid (1984), The Tens in Language by Abu Abdullah Al-Tamimi (1984), The Agreement of Buildings and the Separation of Meanings by Ibn Banin (1985), and The Tanukh Journey from Zarqa to Qaryat Al-Milh (1985). He has supervised the Palestinian Encyclopedia (a project affiliated with An-Najah University) since the year 2009, and this encyclopedia includes a number of topics that cover intellectual and cultural aspects related to Palestine, namely: Palestinian figures and notables, the Palestinian geographical library, the Palestinian historical library, a series of jars, and the Jerusalem Information Bank. More than twenty-two books have been published from the encyclopedia.
He died on September 11, 2023.
