Ali Hassan Ahmed Nayfeh (Abu Maher; December 21 , 1933 - March 27 , 2017 ) is a Palestinian scientist and professor of mechanical engineering , born in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm . He has written many books and has registered patents around the world. He has been honored with many international awards, the most important of which is the Benjamin Franklin Award for Excellence in Mechanical Engineering, which is the highest award in mechanical engineering.
His upbringing and education
Ali Hassan Ahmed Nayfeh was born in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm on December 21 , 1933. He received his primary and secondary education in his city’s schools , and continued his secondary education at the city’s prestigious Al-Fadhiliya School . After graduating, he worked as a traveling or transferred teacher between Jordanian schools , until he was granted a scholarship to study in the United States by an American association.
His journey began at Stanford University in the United States, where he completed all three stages of undergraduate study in four and a half years, which is unprecedented in America to date according to a scientific and investigative study. He went on to pursue university education at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute , where he was appointed a full professor at the institute and university, with the rank of distinguished professor of engineering there.

Ali Nayfeh was raised in a family known for its knowledge. He is the brother of: Tayseer Nayfeh , Munir Nayfeh , and Adnan Nayfeh .
Career
Nayfeh has presented 655 papers at international scientific and engineering conferences, and organized and supervised seventeen international scientific and engineering conferences. He has been honored with three honorary doctorates from Russia, Poland, and Germany (from the University of Munich ). Nayfeh has founded two scientific journals: Journal of Nonlinear Dynamics and Journal of Vibration and Control. He is also an editor of a series of scientific books by Wiley & Sons, New York . He is a fellow of several American scientific and engineering societies.
His Arab contributions are also many. He founded the College of Engineering at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah in 1976 and led a team of 35 engineering members in America, including professors and deans at MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley, and Virginia Tech. He also founded the College of Engineering at Yarmouk University in Irbid and served as its dean. He established a program in mechanics in Tunisia and participated in collaborative research in engineering in Turkey , Jordan , Egypt , and Tunisia . Under his supervision, 98 male and female students graduated with doctoral and post-doctoral degrees in engineering, physics, and mathematics. He was honored with many international awards, the most important of which was the Benjamin Franklin Award for Mechanical Engineering, which is the highest award given in mechanical engineering, noting that this award was won by the physicist Albert Einstein .
His writings
Naifeh has published 485 original research papers in distinguished and refereed scientific journals (Archival Journals), more than one paper per month. He has also authored ten scientific books in engineering, applied mathematics and physics that are taught in many universities, including Israeli universities, and some of them have been translated into Chinese , Japanese and Russian . He has also written 37 chapters in joint scientific and engineering books. He has several registered patents in America , Europe , China and Japan . He also worked in two aviation companies for seven years, where he researched difficult and complex topics in mechanics, physics and mathematics.
His death
He died in a hospital in Amman on March 27, 2017, at the age of 83.
