Salah Al-Taamari - whose real name is Asaad Suleiman Hassan Abdel Qader Suleiman - was born in the town of Zaatara, east of Bethlehem, on October 27, 1942. He joined the ranks of the Fatah movement early on with its first launch. He participated in the Battle of Karameh, and left with the Palestinian revolutionary forces from Jordan to Lebanon.

He was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces during the 1982 invasion of Lebanon, and he became the prisoner in charge of Ansar Prison (1), and he was liberated in 1983 as part of the “Seagull Deal” along with more than 5,000 Lebanese and Palestinian prisoners.
He returned to the homeland with the vanguard of the Palestinian revolutionary forces, and ran for membership in the first legislative elections in the Legislative Council in 1996, and won for the Bethlehem Governorate.

The deceased held several positions, namely: Minister of Youth and Sports in the eighth government, former governor of Bethlehem Governorate, and advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas for settlement affairs and the wall. He is a member of the Revolutionary Council of the Fatah movement, a member of the movement’s Advisory Council, a member of the Military Council, and a member of the Palestinian Central Council .

The activist Salah Al-Taamari passed away on April 23, 2022 in Bethlehem after a long illness.
President Mahmoud Abbas mourned the great national fighter, Major General Al-Taamari, and praised his virtues. He spent his life defending the cause of his country and its people, in the arenas of work and national struggle.
