Ahmad al-Kurd (September 13, 1949 in Deir al-Balah camp - May 9, 2020 in Deir al-Balah) is a Palestinian philanthropist, imam and politician. He held the position of Minister of Social Affairs and Labor in the Government of the Gaza Strip. He is a member of the political bureau of Hamas.
Childhood and educational attainment
Ahmad Harb Ahmad al-Kurd was born on September 13, 1949 in Deir al-Balah camp, a year after his family of five emigrated from their village “Beit Tima” near Ashkelon after the 1948 war. This family now consists of 70 people, and Ahmad al-Kurd himself has 11 children with his wife Russian. He studied Islamic law at Hebron University.
practical life
The Kurds are one of the imams of Deir al-Balah mosques. He is the director of the Salah Charitable Society in the Gaza Strip, which includes about 1,000 orphans and others in Deir al-Balah. He was the Hamas candidate for the mayor of Deir al-Balah in the 2005 Palestinian local elections, and served as its mayor. The Kurds held the position of Minister of Social Affairs and Labor in the Gaza government.
Death
On May 9, 2020, the Kurds died at his home after a stroke.
