Saeed Al Kharumi (January 10, 1972 - August 25, 2021). He was a Palestinian politician of Arab citizens of Israel, belonging to the Arab Bedouin tribe of Azazma in the Negev, and active in human rights issues for the Arabs of the Negev, displacement issues and the demolition of homes and unrecognized villages. He assumed his duties as a deputy in the Israeli Knesset on August 11, 2017, within the Joint List, representing the Islamic movement In Israel (southern part). He died of a heart attack on August 25, 2021.
His biography and political career
Al-Kharumi grew up in a Bedouin family in the Negev, subsisting on livestock. He lives today in the village of Shaqib al-Salam, which was established in 1979. He received his secondary education at Gith Secondary School in the Northern Triangle. He completed his bachelor’s degree in physics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and began teaching physics. In the Arab education system for many years, in 2004 he was elected head of the local council of Shaqib al-Salam village in and held this position until 2008. From 2002 until 2014, he headed the political bureau of the Islamic Movement, the southern sect, and then vice-president of the United Arab List. He served as a local council member for Shakib al-Salam since 2000. From 2006 to 2008 he was a member of the National Planning and Building Committee, before entering the Knesset, he served as Chairman of the Higher Steering Committee for the Arabs of the Negev. In 2015, he was elected to the fifteenth place in the Joint List, and began occupying his seat in the Knesset in accordance with the alternation agreement between the parties that make up the Joint List, after the resignation of Representative Abdullah Abu Maarouf, on August 11, 2017.
Al-Kharumi stated in the local Arab media after assuming his position in the Knesset, that there are three important tracks that will be his priority, on top of which are land and housing, and the second matter is the economic aspect in the Arab sector, especially in the south, which needs Arab and Jewish partnerships, and work to establish joint industrial zones Between Arabs and Jews, the third issue is the issue of education.
