Founder of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics and its Chairman during the period 1993-2005, internationally known for his extensive experience in the fields of social, demographic and medical statistics.
He holds a BA in Mathematics (Birzeit University, 1979), an MA in Mathematical Statistics ( Stanford-USA , 1981), an MA in Applied Statistics ( Cornell-USA , 1986) and a PhD in Medical Statistics ( Cornell-USA , 1988).
Prior to his current position, Dr. Abu Libdeh held a number of official positions in the Palestinian National Authority and the private sector, including Secretary General of the Council of Ministers (twice), Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, Minister of Labor, Minister of Social Affairs, Head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Head of the Private Sector Empowerment Program, Supervisor of the Industrial Zones and Free Zones File, Executive Director of the Palestine Investment Conference, and General Coordinator of the Gaza Strip Reconstruction Program (Temporary Compensation Program for Victims of Aggression, Private Sector Facilities Reconstruction Program, and Agriculture and Livestock Reconstruction Program). He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the Palestine Stock Exchange during 2006 and 2007.
Dr. Abu Libdeh has contributed throughout his career to the leadership and development of several public institutions, including the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction (PECDAR), where he served as Acting Director General of the Council during 1993/1994, in addition to his membership in the Council’s Board of Governors. Co-founder and Deputy Chairman of the Technical and Advisory Teams (1991-1993), Member of the Board of Governors of the Palestine Monetary Authority, Co-founder and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Economic Policy Institute (MAS), Member of the Central Elections Committee, Member of the Palestinian Team for the Madrid and Washington Negotiations, and the Multilateral Negotiations, Member of the High Committee supervising the Oslo-2 Negotiations , Member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Quds Open University during the period 1994-2003, Member of the Higher Education Council, Chairman of the Higher Education Quality Improvement Fund, and Head of the Mathematics Department at Birzeit University (1990-1991).
In addition to his professional experience, Dr. Abu Labdeh was known during the seventies and eighties as a poet, short story writer, and critic. He published a number of articles, poems, and stories in specialized forums. He has two books of poetry and two books of short stories, which were published in Palestine during that period.
