Kayed Khalil Muhammad Jaradat (Abu Khalil; 1956–2023) was a Palestinian diplomat , who was the PLO ambassador to Djibouti and Madagascar and mayor of Sa'ir.
His life
Kayed Jaradat was born in Hebron to a family from the town of Sa'ir on October 12, 1956 during the Jordanian administration of the West Bank . He received his primary and preparatory school education in Sa'ir and obtained his high school diploma in 1974 from Halhul Boys' Secondary School.
He joined the Fatah movement in 1975. He was the head of the General Union of Palestinian Students in South Yemen . He obtained a BA in English Literature from the University of Aden in 1980.
He served as Director of the Palestine Liberation Organization Office in Djibouti between 1983 and 1988, and in Madagascar between 1988 and 1992.
He obtained a master's degree from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1990, and a doctorate in 1997.
He returned to the Palestinian territories in 1997 after the peace agreement between the Palestine Liberation Organization and Israel. He worked in the Political and Moral Guidance Authority and later in the Palestinian Ministry of Interior until his retirement in 2012.
He was Secretary of North Hebron between 1999 and 2007.
In 2012, he became mayor of Sa'ir after being elected in the 2012 Palestinian local elections, and his term continued until 2017.
His death
He died on July 22, 2023, as a result of cardiac arrest , and was buried on July 27, 2023.
