Ahmed Badr Ibrahim Aql (born December 1, 1952 in Ein Sultan Camp , Jericho ) is a Palestinian civil engineer and diplomat , who served as the Palestinian Ambassador to Iraq between 2014 and 2023, and was also the Palestinian Ambassador to Romania between 2009 and 2014.
Early life and education
Aql was born in Ain Sultan camp near Jericho on December 1, 1952 to a Palestinian family displaced from a village destroyed by Zionist gangs in the 1948 Nakba War called Dhakrin in the Hebron District . His family immigrated again to Jordan after the 1967 Naksa War . He studied science at the University of Jordan for only one year, then left to study civil engineering at a university in the Indian capital, New Delhi , where he obtained a bachelor's degree in 1983 and later a master's degree in urban planning in 1989. He later obtained a doctorate in civil engineering from Romania in 2014.
Practical life
During his studies in India, he was President of the General Union of Palestinian Students between 1978 and 1982, and Secretary of the Fatah Movement between 1983 and 1988.
In 1984, he was appointed as a diplomat with the rank of First Secretary in the PLO office in India and continued until 1989 when he moved to Tunisia and worked in politics and supervised the Palestinian communities in Western Europe and America until 2009.
On 14 August 2009, he was sworn in before President Mahmoud Abbas as Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Romania . On 16 September 2009, he presented his credentials to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Doru Costa, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, and on 30 September 2009, he re-presented them to the President of Romania, Traian Basescu . He continued to serve as Ambassador to Romania until 2014.
On November 18, 2014, he presented his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to Iraq to Iraqi President Fuad Masum . He continued to serve as Ambassador to Iraq until his retirement in 2023.
