Bakr Muhammad Amin Abd al-Mun'im (born 1942 in Ramla – died 9 April 2023 in Amman  ) was a Palestinian diplomat and a Palestinian refugee from the 1948 war to Jordan .  He was the PLO ambassador to Japan , Canada and Russia .

Early life and education

Bakr Abdel Moneim was born in the city of Ramla in 1942 during the British Mandate of Palestine .

Abdel Moneim studied at Cairo University in 1966 and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked as the head of the main power station in Jordan for seven years. He returned to Cairo University to continue his studies and obtained a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1975.

Abdel Moneim served as Vice President of the International Union of Students from 1978 to 1983 when he obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Czechoslovakia .

In 1985 he obtained a PhD in Economics from Germany and a PhD in Political Science from the United States in 1988.

His diplomatic life

He was the PLO Ambassador to Japan in 1983. In 1979 he became a member of the Palestinian National Council and an elected member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council in 1989. On July 23, 1995, the PLO appointed him to head the new Palestinian General Delegation to Canada. From 1995 to 2004 he was a member of the Palestinian delegation to the annual sessions of the United Nations General Assembly. 

On October 31, 2005, he was appointed Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Russia , later on April 13, 2006,  he presented his credentials to Russian President Vladimir Putin . 

his personal life

Abdul Moneim resided in Amman , the capital of Jordan . He married Ghada Abu Laban and had two daughters: Madiha and Kinana, both of whom have master's degrees , and one son, Abdul Moneim, an architect who holds two master's degrees in architecture from McGill University in Montreal , Canada. He has three grandchildren: Thabet, Hamza and Qasim.

His writings

Based on his experience and knowledge of the Palestinian issue, he authored three books:

Palestine in My Heart (Shakihiyosha, 1991 in Japanese ).
The Palestine Liberation Organization and the Gulf War (Daisanshokan, 1991 in Japanese and 1992 in English ).
Inside Story of the Middle East Peace Conference (Shakihiyosha, 1993 in Japanese; Al-Shorouk, 1994 in Arabic ).
Abdel Moneim studied Japanese cultural life and edited two other books:

Hiroshima Songs (Poems) (Al-Shorouk, 1995 in Arabic).
Ancient Japanese Folk Tales (Al-Shorouk, 1996 in Arabic).
His death
He died on April 9, 2023 in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and was buried in Sahab Cemetery.
