Tamam Abu
Humaidan (34 years), the first Palestinian woman from Gaza to hold the position
of chairwoman of a municipal council in Sweden. She was born and lived in Gaza,
Palestine, and studied journalism and media there, but due to the difficult
conditions and the unstable situation in the Strip, she immigrated with her
family to Sweden at the beginning of 2014, and when she arrived, she asked
Asylum and settled in Bleking County in the south of the country.
This position
was the culmination of Abu Hamdan's efforts in Sweden. Her career began with a
job contract in a pizzeria, which contributed to her obtaining permanent
residence in the country. Then she learned the Swedish language and was not
satisfied with the required curriculum, as she studied additionally, which made
her finish her studies in a short time. .
Abu Humaidan
was not satisfied with that, so she obtained a master’s degree in management
and institution development from the Swedish University of Malmö, in addition
to her work in the labor office, and this increased her chances of obtaining a
better job. In 2018, she got a job in the elderly services sector as a
department head in the municipality of Karlshamn, south of Sweden.
Abu Humaidan
joined the Social Democratic Party (Sweden's largest party) in Olofstrom
municipality, since the beginning of her arrival in Sweden, and at first her
participation was limited to party meetings.
In the 2018
elections, she was nominated for the provincial council elections in Bleking,
and she was ranked No. 15 in the party list. After the results were released,
she held several positions in addition to her professional work, as she held an
alternative position in the education committee in the municipal council and a
member of the provincial council.
