Mahmoud Suleiman al-Maghrabi
(1935-2009): Palestinian-Syrian-Libyan politician and activist. Born in Haifa,
Palestine, he received his primary education at the Amiriya School in Haifa,
and took refuge with his parents in Syria in the year of the Nakba 1948.
He continued his education at the
Faculty of Law in Damascus, worked in Qatar, then pursued postgraduate studies
in petroleum sciences in the United States, and returned to settle in Libya.
He served as the first prime minister
in Libya after the September 1969 coup, for the period from 1969 to 1970.
He died on July 17, 2009 in
Damascus as a result of an incurable disease. Palestinian President Mahmoud
Abbas, who was his classmate in primary school, mourned him.
The origins of Mahmoud al-Maghribi,
from Kikla, in the Western Mountains, from the family of the Awlad Issa, and
the title of al-Maghribi; He fought for the cause of Palestine and was the
bridge between Libya and officials in the Palestine Liberation Organization.
