Abd al-Latif Arabiyat (December 1, 1933 - April 26, 2019 / Shaaban 21, 1440 AH) was a Jordanian politician and educator who was the Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament for three terms from 1990 to 1993.
Birth and upbringing
Abd al-Latif Suleiman Salem Arabiyat was born on December 1, 1933 in the city of Salt in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to a farming family. His father is Suleiman Salem Suleiman al-Eid and his mother is Amna Hassan al-Hawari al-Hiyari. He has 7 brothers and one sister. He studied elementary and preparatory school in the only secondary school in Salt in Jordan at the time.
his working life and positions
From 1960 to 1962, he worked as a teacher at Khadoorie College, during his stay in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm.
Member of the Council of the Agricultural Engineers Association, the first in 1966, the third in 1970 and the fourth in 1972.
And a member of the Jordanian Senate from 1993-1997.
And King Hussein granted him the title of Excellency, although he did not receive any ministerial portfolio.
He headed the Islamic Action Front, before devoting himself to social and environmental positions.
He was also a member of the Royal Committee for the National Pact, which was formed by the late King Hussein bin Talal in 1990.
Member of the Royal Committee for the National Agenda in 2005.
He held the position of Secretary General of the Jordanian Arabic Language Academy in the period (1986-1989), and was an active member in it from 1986 until his death.
Qualifications
Dr. Arabiyat holds a Ph.D. in Education from Texas A&M University in 1974.
Master's degree from Texas A&M University in 1967.
Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering 1958 from the University of Baghdad.
Death
He passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019 while performing Friday prayers.
