As part of their graduation project, three Palestinian students at Birzeit University created an automated system to detect bone fractures in the human body through a computer program that was designed and is currently being developed.
The idea of the system, which was invented by the three students Rami Salman, Ahmed Al-Jamal, and Muhammad Nabil Qayyim, is to automatically detect bone fractures in X-ray images, using the latest artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.
The system won the award for the best project and organized team in the organized global entrepreneurship competition held in Malaysia recently with the participation of 100 projects from 40 countries around the world.
The system works by photographing the patient and printing a plastic image through which he examines the location of the fracture with the naked eye, but in the new system, the image (digital) goes to the computer and is downloaded according to a mechanism whereby it enters into several preparatory processes for examining the fracture, according to Al-Gamal. After training the system on a large number of images, it is able to decide whether there is a fracture or not.
