Student Yafa Jaradat from the College of Information Technology and Computer Engineering at Palestine Polytechnic University won first place in the Quantum Computing Hackathon, organized by New York University in Abu Dhabi - the United Arab Emirates, under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, represented by the Technological Innovation Center, and in partnership with the Palestinian Computing Hackathon Committee, headed by Dr. Musa Muhammad Faraj Allah, and the membership of Al-Quds University, Birzeit University, An-Najah National University, Kadoorie University, Polytechnic University, and University College/Gaza. The Palestinian teams participated in the activities of the International Hackathon in Quantum Computing Science, which was held in Abu Dhabi in the period between the 27th and 30th of the month. April 2023.
The qualification of student Yafa Jaradat from Polytechnic University in the competition comes after she won first place in Palestine in the first Palestinian Hackathon, which was sponsored and organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Computing Committee, represented by Dr. Musa Farajallah, founder of the Palestinian Computing Hackathon.
Jaradat won first place for her project “Smart Current” by a vote from the judges, which is the biggest award in this hackathon. The student Yafa Jaradat from Polytechnic University and the student Shahad Labada from An-Najah National University also won first place according to the public’s vote. 263 students, doctors, researchers and engineers from more than 54 countries participated in the competition.
The teams' competition revolved around quantum computing and the use of quantum-based techniques to solve complex algorithms, work to develop solutions for using quantum computers, and innovate applications concerned with health, education, business and science affairs to serve society in the Arab world and the world.
It is noteworthy that the Palestinian Polytechnic University team, in addition to other Palestinian teams, participated in the competition under the supervision of Dr. Musa Faraj Allah, Associate Professor at the College of Information Technology and Computer Engineering.
The participation of university students in such distinguished international competitions comes from the university’s vision towards internationalism and its strategy based on supporting and developing the creativity of its students to increase students’ competitiveness and open local and international horizons for them, through scientific curricula that build the entrepreneurial personality of students and increase their flexibility and integration into groups.
