Fadel Abu Ghanem was born in Syria to Palestinian parents, and immigrated to Canada at the age of seven.
Fadl had a great ambition to help young people who needed great support during their maturity, because he did not receive much support during his youth. “I grew up in Ottawa without anyone to support me and I always hoped to have a club to help boys and girls,” he says.
When Fadel became older, he decided to volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa to support those who had no one to turn to. He mentored 2 teenagers through one session a week for 4 hours, listened to their issues, counseled them and helped with school work and allowed him His previous experience is communicating with young people and helping them face many difficult situations.
Fadel's first job was working with young offenders in Ottawa as a corrections officer. "I talked to them about the obstacles they faced that could have been avoided if they had a positive role model and were given better guidance and support," he says.
After moving to Edmonton to work as an officer, Fadl’s dedication to youth continued and he mentored students in the In All the for School Junior Avenue Spruce Youth for . This weekly program for boys between the ages of 12 and 16 allows students to focus on developing skills that will prepare them for future success.
