Bahaa al-Din Bukhari (1944 - October 29, 2015) is a Palestinian artist and media personality . He was born in the city of Jerusalem in 1944. He was immigrated with his family to Syria after the Palestinian Nakba in 1949. He obtained a high school diploma in the Levant in 1963, and in 1962, Bukhari’s talent was discovered in acting. The hand of the Syrian journalist Muhammad Khaled Qatma, editor-in-chief of the Damascene newspaper Al-Ayyam at the time, where he conceived and wrote a comic story series when he was eighteen years old at the time, and his first start was in the Damascene newspaper Al-Ayyam in the year 1962.

He then moved to the State of Kuwait and worked as a cartoonist in the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai between the years 1964-1980, then in the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anbaa during the years 1981-1988 in the art of caricature under the title “Abu Arab.” He was a colleague of the late creator Naji Al-Ali, where they worked together in the Kuwaiti press. He then moved to Tunisia and lived there during the years 1989-1994 and contributed to writing in Tunisian and Libyan newspapers. He then moved to work in Al-Quds newspaper between the years 1994-1999, then in Al-Ayyam newspaper until his death.

He is the author , director and illustrator of the Kuwaiti children's magazine "Saad" during the years 1970-1980, and the creator of the characters of the Kuwaiti children's program " Iftah Ya Simsim ", Noman and Melson. [3] He designed and produced all the artistic materials for the entertainment city in Kuwait, which was considered one of the most important historical landmarks for children at the time, and which was opened in 1983, as a parallel copy of Disney World in the United States.

He was a member of several institutions, including: the Union of Palestinian Artists, the General Union of Palestinian Writers and Writers , the Union of Arab Writers and Journalists , the Arab Cartoonists Association, and the Union of Writers and Cartoonists in the United States of America.

He died in Ramallah on Friday, October 29, 2015, and was buried there. [4] To commemorate his passing, a book of caricatures entitled (The Language of Freedom - Bahaa Al-Bukhari) was issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Culture in 2016, which contains approximately 200 colored drawings.

His artistic style

Al-Bukhari is considered one of the most famous cartoonists on the international level, as he succeeded in engraving his name among the giants of artists in the world through his reading of the Palestinian scene and portraying it in a unique aesthetic way. He published a book entitled “Bahaa Bukhari’s Caricature” in 1985 in Kuwait, which contained 400 of his drawings. He drew caricatures in almost all its political, objective and social forms. He was the first to introduce color caricatures to the Arab press in 1979, in addition to entering the world of children’s drawings and advertising fields. He also excelled in drawing oil paintings. He drew more than one drawing about Jerusalem and Palestine among Arab artists, and he had constant, almost daily characters in his cartoons, namely: the character “Abu Al-Abd and Umm Al-Abd,” in addition to the character “Abu Arab.”

Individual and group exhibitions

He held a group of special exhibitions in the field of caricature in the Palestinian territories, including: the Hebron Exhibition in 2015 on the occasion of the commemoration of the National Day of Culture within the activities of the Palestinian Ministry of Culture , and he has an exhibition in the “Sheraton” Hotel in Kuwait.

At the international level, his first exhibition was held in Bulgaria in 1974, and he participated in exhibitions in Turkey , France , Japan , and the United States. In 2006, he participated in an international exhibition held at the United Nations headquarters in New York. In addition to his various contributions to the fields of animation and comic books.
